Why Literacy Matters
The key to a successful future.

Literacy is a basic skill that every person should have. Children who are behind on reading will be 3x less likely to graduate on time for high school.
Reading is also a way to gain knowledge. Background knowledge is gained by reading and comprehending other books. When more books are read, more knowledge is gained to easier understand other books. Those who were less educated and low-income were more likely to believe misinformation when it is presented to them.
Students with reading comprehension also think critically. Students who showed higher reading comprehension skills also showed a high correlation to higher critical thinking skills.
Children who lack literacy and reading comprehension skills grow into illiterate adults. Who are less likely to vote, read the news, or obtain a job. Luckily, instilling the importance of literacy and reading for pleasure can begin early in a person’s life.
